Solana’s network could be four times faster than it is now

One of the main problems for blockchains remains scalability. Processing thousands of transactions per second remains something networks continue to struggle with. However, Solana (SOL) has addressed some of these issues and is currently the fastest blockchain in the world.

Solana network could be faster

Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakavenko pointed out that the blockchain could be four times faster than it currently is. This was during his speech at the Solana Breakpoint conference in Lisbon. Yakovenko said the following here:

“In relativistic terms, Solana is about four times slower than it should be. The speed of light halfway around the world is about 110 milliseconds. It will take a lot of blood, sweat and tears to get there, but in theory that could be the theoretical limit to how fast the network is.”

The conference attracted some of the biggest names in crypto, including Alexis Ohanian, the co-founder of Reddit. Ohanian pledged $100 (approximately €89) million to develop social media on Solana. Decentralized Finance (DeFi) and metaverse ecosystems on the Solana blockchain have been hyped as “the best” in the cryptocurrency space.

Hubble Protocol Comes Into the Spotlight

The highlight of the conference was the presentation by the project leader and lead developer of Hubble Protocol, Marius Ciubotariu. Marius discussed the challenges he faced when he started building on the Solana blockchain.

He also shared with his audience how he overcame those challenges and built a protocol that has millions of users. Solana is a relatively new blockchain and Rust is a newcomer to the DeFi space. Hence, using Rust to develop a DeFi protocol on the Solana ecosystem presents a challenge for developers. Marius, however, shared enlightening tips on how to face the challenges and get the best out of Solana.

SOL remains one of the largest cryptocurrencies and has been rallying since the beginning of the year. SOL is trading at $209 per coin at the time of writing, up over 30% in a month. The cryptocurrency could climb towards the USD 250 level before the end of the year if the market can overcome its current bearish sentiment and resume its rally.
